The Blue Ridge Mountains chain, part of the Appalachian Mountains, contains some of the highest peaks in the eastern US. The highest Blue Ridge peak (Mt. Mitchell) is located in North Carolina. Shown is one such higher elevation peak of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina (courtesy of JW).

Nestled along the crests of the Southern Appalachians is the Blue Ridge Parkway, often referred to as "America's Favorite Drive". The scenic Blue Ridge Parkway serves as a link between 2 US national parks: the Shenandoah and the Great Smoky mountains.
